On Monday, November 17, Chamber Ensemble, consisting of 32 Pensacola Christian College students from 13 different majors, joined choirs from across North America on the Carnegie Hall stage. These choirs had the distinguished privilege to premiere Heather Sorenson’s newest sacred choral work, entitled SOLAS. The title is inspired by the five foundational themes of the Reformation, Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”), Sola Fide (“Faith alone”), Sola Gratia (“Grace alone”), Solus Christus (“Christ alone”), and Soli Deo Gloria (“To the glory of God alone”).
PCC alumna Heather Sorenson (Music: Sacred Piano ’97) not only composed this work but also conducted the performance. Passionate about both music and her Christian faith, Sorenson was excited to share SOLAS with the Carnegie audience. “This work is especially meaningful for me because it is the gospel set to music,” she said. “I’ve based my whole life around the five solas, and to be able to present my faith to the world in an artform that transcends church walls is a special privilege.”
