On April 18 and April 25, Pensacola Christian College engineering students participated in the engineering design competition and the electric vehicle race. Dr. Michael Geary oversees both events and enjoys seeing the ingenuity of students. “The purpose of these events,” he shared, “is to provide students an opportunity outside of the classroom for some friendly competition and to apply concepts learned in the classroom. I want students to be able to connect the academic or theoretical with the practical.”
In both events, three different teams participated. The first event, the design competition, involved students having to make remote-controlled vehicles that could perform on ice. Phillip Shcherbakov (Jr., PA), Nathan Johnston (Fr., TX), Jenna Lin (Fr., OH), Kara Symonds (Fr., MI), David Gaponov (So., NH), Adalberto Teteltitla (So., CA), and Caisey Ricker (Fr., WY) won the design competition. The winners of the electric vehicle race were Koleson Hultgren (Sr., IL), Tommy Kyek (Jr., VA), Judah Looy (Sr., MI), James McCullough (Jr., CA), Lachlan McPherson (Jr., CO), Aaron Rowe (Sr., OK), Noelle Simmons (Sr., MI), Tim Snyder (Jr., NJ), Tony Ward (Sr., Canada), and HanXiang Yu (Sr., MP).
