Saturday, February 7, Trio con Brio Copenhagen took center stage at the Crowne Centre and presented music by Boulanger, Ravel, and Mendelssohn. This world-famous trio featured piano, violin, and cello. In 1999, pianist Jens Elvekjaer, violinist Soo-Jin Hong, and cellist Soo-Kyung Hong founded Trio con Brio Copenhagen in Vienna. Now operating out of Copenhagen, Denmark, Trio con Brio Copenhagen is known for their exceptional musicianship and desire to share music with all age groups through their creative concerts all over the world. “It was really an experience to perform at PCC!” shared pianist Jens. “What a special event taken care for in every detail. Great and super attentive audience!”
Before the Fine Arts performance, PCC students were given the opportunity to attend the Red Carpet Event. In a subtle nod to Trio con Brio Copenhagen’s beginnings, this Red Carpet included Copenhagen-type fare, specifically meatballs and Danish pastries. The decor was a classy black and white Valentine’s theme (a hint at piano keys). Costumes from four romantic Fine Arts productions were displayed, including pieces from Cyrano de Bergerac, The Romancers, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Purloined Letters, and The Scarlet Pimpernel. Students, faculty, staff, and friends of PCC enjoyed the first Fine Arts Series of the spring semester. Senior instrumental music student Isaiah Richter said, “You’d be hard-pressed to find an ensemble more communicative and cohesive than Trio con Brio. They are truly captivating to watch and listen to!”
