The Pensacola Christian College Bible department now offers a media ministries concentration! This concentration prepares students to meet a great need for churches and ministries by using media as a way to spread the gospel. Below are seven questions prospective students may have about this new program:
1. What is the purpose of this new media ministries concentration?
The purpose of this concentration is to train Christians to effectively identify and meet the media needs in a variety of ministry contexts. “There’s a rising number of pastors interested in spreading the gospel through media, but they don’t really know where to start,” Bible department chair Dr. Jody Wolf shared. “This concentration allows our students to go into local churches and help them spread the gospel more effectively.”

2. What inspired this new concentration?
“Current and prospective students had asked if PCC offers training in media ministries,” shared Dean of Biblical Studies Dan Rushing. “Also, President Shoemaker noticed the need while traveling to different churches. So many pastors would ask him if the College provided education in media. Becoming aware of this overwhelming need, Dr. Shoemaker approached the Bible department and asked if we could make a media ministries program available.”
3. What will students learn from their core courses?
As a Bible degree, the media ministries concentration includes a strong foundation of Bible classes designed to prepare students for ministry. In addition, starting freshman year, students dive in to PR 224 Media in Ministry and focus on the biblical philosophy and strategies for using digital technology in the ministry setting. As students progress, they develop skills in graphic design, audio and video production, and camera operation. Upper-level classes include in-depth development and production of websites, media plans, and multimedia content. In AR 345 Media Ministry Internship, students plug in to a local church. They will spend 120 hours assisting, learning, and expanding their skills while contributing to their future portfolio.
4. What are some types of technology students will be using?

Students will learn how to use industry-standard digital video and audio equipment, Adobe Creative Cloud, and a variety of software platforms used to conduct internal and external communication campaigns, create podcasts, livestream services, and more. Their knowledge of software and hardware will allow them to help churches and ministries choose the best platform for their media needs.
5. What are some projects students can look forward to?
Students will create branding for a church or ministry by designing a logo, complete print pieces such as newsletters and flyers, design and test sermon slides, create web designs and video projects, and write a church media plan. Students will also run cameras during PCC chapel services.
6. What careers could students with this degree go into?
With a concentration in media ministries, students will be equipped to coordinate the media outreach of churches, schools, youth camps, mission agencies, and other faith-based organizations. Additionally, they will have the knowledge to develop meaningful content to advance the gospel effectively in an ever-increasing digital world. Through visual arts, Christians can communicate biblical truth creatively that transcends boundaries and reflects the beauty and glory of God.

7. From a biblical worldview, why is this concentration important?
PCC’s media ministries program begins with a biblical perspective on communication and how to utilize media as a tool for ministry. Those with this degree will have the skills to be a media team leader, pastor, or church staff member. They will be skilled at collaborating with others and ready to set an example with their work and productions. Their heart for others and passion for creativity will allow them to spread the good news of the gospel and bring people together around the Word of God. “We want our media ministries graduates to be able to communicate the Word of God with excellence, having a philosophy of scripture,” shared Dr. Wolf. “We’re not driven by technology, but we certainly are to use technology to help spread God’s Word.”
PCC’s Bible department faculty are excited to offer this new concentration to the student body. Any student or prospective student interested may find more information on the media ministries concentration page.
